Ignite National Technology Fund, commonly known as Ignite (previously National ICT R&D Fund), is a non-profit organization owned by the Government of Pakistan and managed by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication. Its primary mission is to offer grants to startups and innovative projects. Additionally, Ignite operates incubators and digital skills training programs in collaboration with private sector partners. It also conducts studies to inform public sector policies and engages in outreach activities to promote innovation and create awareness about its programs among industry stakeholders, academia, media, and policymakers. Established in 2007, Ignite is funded by mobile and landline telecom operators as well as internet service providers in Pakistan, as mandated by the government.
The organization is led by a CEO, typically recruited from the private sector, who reports to a board of directors. This board consists of both public and private sector representatives, including individuals from telecom operators and internet service providers that contribute to Ignite’s funding. Ignite has set up National Incubation Centers (NICs) in Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Karachi, and Quetta.
