Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works Limited (KS&EW) is a Pakistani government-owned defense contractor and military corporation situated in West Wharf, Karachi, Sindh.
As the oldest shipyard in Pakistan, KSEW Limited specializes in shipbuilding, ship repair, and general heavy engineering equipment. Over the years, it has constructed numerous cargo ships, oil tankers, tug boats, support vessels, landing craft, and submarines for the Pakistan Navy.
In addition to serving the Pakistan Navy, KSEW also undertakes projects for various entities such as the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, Karachi Port Trust, Port Qasim Authority, and the private sector within Pakistan. The company’s shares are entirely owned by the Government of Pakistan, operating under the administrative oversight of the Ministry of Defence.
Established in the mid-1950s as a venture of the Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC), KSEW was formally incorporated in 1957 as a public limited company, governed by a board of directors and a managing director.
Equipped with extensive facilities including a large shipbuilding hall, three-block fabrication areas, three shipbuilding berths, two dry docks, a machine shop, grit blasting and painting facilities, a 7881-ton capacity ship lift, a transfer system, and 13 parking stations, KSEW stands as a cornerstone of Pakistan’s maritime industry.
